W ramach obchodów uroczystości 40-lecia strajków studenckich w dniu 18.02 w budynku Rektoratu Uniwersytetu Medycznego w Łodzi odsłonięto tablicę pamiątkową poświęconą bohaterom wydarzeń 1981r. Ceremonia w Auli UM im. Pruszczyńskiego były zwieńczeniem prawie miesięcznego jubileuszu upamiętniającego strajki młodzieży studenckiej, które 21 stycznia 1981 rozpoczęli żacy z Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego. W krótkim czasie dołączyły do nich inne uczelnie, w tym łódzka Akademia Medyczna. Przez miesiąc na elewacji budynku Rektoratu UM wisiały repliki banerów strajkowych przygotowane przez Muzeum Tradycji Niepodległościowych w Łodzi.
Uroczystość w Auli poprzedzona była otwarciem wystawy plenerowej pt. „By przestałabyć sloganem demokracja”, przy ulicy Piotrkowskiej 104 przygotowanej przez to Muzeum.
Na gali pojawili się szacowni goście, m.in.:

- Pan Tobiasz Bocheński – Wojewoda Łódzki
- Pana Adam Pustelnik – Wiceprezydent Miasta Łodzi

Chcemy, by tablica przypominała przyszłym pokoleniom o sile ludzkiej solidarności i determinacji oraz pomagała przywracać pamięć o strajku. Cieszymy się, że udało się wygospodarować na nią przestrzeń w tak szacownym miejscu jakim jest budynek Rektora Uniwersytetu Medycznego w Łodzi.
W ramach obchodów planujemy jeszcze nagranie webinarium ze wspomnieniami uczestników wydarzeń stycznia i lutego 1981 roku oraz wydanie drugiej, poszerzonej edycji albumu z fotografiami dokumentującymi przebieg buntu młodych na naszej Alma Mater.
